The opportunity to collaborate with like-minded, creative talent is always a thrill for us. We seek to transform the work of those we love and leverage our in-house design model to create unique wardrobe additions.
On that note, we’re so excited to share our latest artist range in collaboration with Emma Rushton. As we pay homage to nature in organic patterns and abstract form, the collection boasts a range of considered fabrics and intricately crafted hand-painted designs.
In light of the collaboration, we had the privilege of picking Emma’s brain and unpacking all things thealkingpointofview x Emma Rushton. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on the collection and discover the limited edition pieces.
What was the inspiration behind the artwork for this collection?
Whilst creating the artworks for this collection, my primary aim was to craft intricately textured pieces on canvas, aspiring to evoke a similar tactile experience when translated onto clothing.
My initial inspiration for these pieces was gained from the aloe vera plant. I was captivated by its intricate yet wild form and the rich colours throughout. Whilst observing the plant I broke down specific details that stood out to me, and then reinterpreted the plant's essence through various abstract forms. This journey was driven by an appreciation for the humble, yet powerful plant that the aloe vera is.
When did you first know you wanted to become an artist?
I don’t think I had a specific realisation that I wanted to become an artist. It's all been a gradual journey of discovering my love and intrigue for art over time. Art is something that I've always been drawn to, it's a channel where I can freely express my emotions. I get totally absorbed in the whole creative process and honestly I'm yet to find a feeling better than this!!
When you aren’t in the studio, how do you spend your time?
Besides painting, one of my favourite things to do is Bushwalk, so I tend to spend a lot of time outdoors. But also spending time with family, friends and dog Haz. Also enjoying quiet moments at home with a good book and music!
Tell us a little bit about your creative process? Do other forms of art, such as music or books etc, motivate you or shape your creative approach?
My creative process is constantly evolving, so it's difficult to narrow down. I’m constantly being inspired by all areas of life and I find so much excitement in learning and observing from my surroundings.
Music plays a huge part in my creation process. Its emotive power totally influences the mood and energy of my work. And I find it interesting to notice all the subconscious choices made once a work is complete.
When creating a painting I believe in an approach that is fluid and allows for spontaneity. It keeps things exciting!
Do you have a particular artwork that holds a special place in your heart, if so, what is it?
Honestly not really! My work holds an equal place in my heart. Each piece represents a unique moment, emotion or perspective. Whilst there certainly are aspects that I have grown to dislike in some pieces, I approach them with gratitude. Collectively they form a mosaic of different moments in time, allowing me to appreciate and be reminded of the diverse moments they reflect.
thealkingpointofview is all about expressing individuality through the pieces we love and how we wear them, how would you describe your personal style?
I would say my personal style is pretty simple. I value simplicity and functionality within my wardrobe. But I also love interesting fabric and trying to incorporate textural elements within my outfits.
How do you navigate challenges like creative blocks in your artistic journey, are there any strategies you employ to reignite your inspiration?
For me the biggest one is just accepting and surrendering to the ebb and flow of creativity, accepting that moments of pause often lead to bursts of inspiration. This has definitely been a big learning curb for me, but I have come to find that the best inspiration flows your way when you don’t search for it.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists looking to establish themselves in the art world?
As an aspiring artist myself, I feel extremely under qualified to answer this!! But I would say focus on exploring your practice with a curious and open manner always - learn about what makes you tick creatively, open yourself to different styles and techniques. And just trust and love the process of artistic growth.
How do you envision the future of your artistic career and the direction it might take?
I’m open to any direction it goes in! At the moment I would love it to continue to evolve in a way that allows me to experiment with new ideas and techniques. I would love to collaborate with another artist, I think collaborating with an artist of a different medium would be pretty cool!
What does a collaboration with thealkingpointofview mean to you?
This collaboration means a lot to me! I’ve had so much fun creating the artwork for these pieces, and feel very grateful to have been able to work with a brand that I am a massive fan of.

]]>Summers in Australia look like glistening salty skin, ripe juicy fruits and bikinis hanging loosely over the porch at dusk. While it’s indeed our favourite time of year, the relentless heat and damaging UVs can make enjoying those wind-free, glassy coastline days a little more challenging. As we dive into our favourite season for sun-soaking and socialising, we’ve partnered with our friends at Mother SPF to share 5 tips we’ll be following for balmy summer days done the safe way.
Tip 1: Don’t just use any SPF. Make sure it’s an Australian Made SPF
Australia has the highest global standards and regulations when it comes to sunscreen. Australia is the only country in the world where SPF is classified as a therapeutic good (a listed medicine) to make sure they are safe, efficacious and of high quality. This is definitely necessary, considering Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.
All MOTHERS formulations are made in Australia and tested to the Australian SPF standard.
Tip 2: Go hard on orange & red foods this summer
Mango, papaya, carrots are rich in beta carotene. Carotenes have been shown to help neutralise free radicals from the sun. Notice that most of these fruits/vegetables are grown in tropical sunny climates... It's not just a coincidence! While snacking on a carrot does not replace wearing SPF and protective clothing, having some extra protection to help boost your skin's innate resistance against UV rays can't hurt right?
Tip 3: Wear actual sunglasses. Not fashion spectacles
Are you wearing sunglasses to match your outfit or to protect your eyes? (hopefully both). Do you know around 5% to 10% of all skin cancers occur in the eyelid (frightening right?)
Choose sunglasses with a lens category of 2, 3 or 4. These sunglasses absorb 95% of UV radiation.
Tip 4: Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate!
Yes we know the importance of drinking lots of water. But what about replacing the minerals your body loses from the combination of heat and outdoor activities on a hot summer's day?
An important component of everyone’s hydration strategy should be to consume fluids with sodium and other electrolytes. An electrolyte solution is more hydrating than pure water alone. We like to simply add some salt to our water to help ensure we don’t deplete our sodium levels while hydrating.
Tip 5: Download a UV Index App.
I love using an UV Index app like SunSmart. With a few clicks, you can find the UV level and sun protection times for the day. Allowing you to master the balancing act of getting enough Vitamin D from the sun, whilst also making sure you don’t get too much sun and increase your risk of skin cancer. I always make sure I have a tube of MOTHER SPF on me and some form of protective clothing. I love the thealkingpointofview sarongs - lightweight and easy to stuff into my handbag and wrap around me for those days when the UV is high.
In celebration of the silly season, enjoy a FREE sunscreen from our friends at Mother SPF for the first 50 customers that shop at our Gold Coast Pop Up.

As the cooler months arrive and we return home from our travels, it’s time to pack away our sun-drenched Euro essentials and swap them for pieces made for the brisk winter air. Whilst we’re avid summertime lovers here at thealkingpointofview, we won’t deny any opportunity to add vibrancy and bold layers to complete the perfect winter look.
With this in mind, we’re sharing the pieces that have earnt their rightful place at the front of our wardrobe for the foreseeable future, or at least until the warmth returns down under.
We know that sometimes the cooler temperatures can mean your most loved winter look may feel a little less vibrant and a whole lot more neutral. To avoid many shades of beige, we’ve styled our best selling Italian Streets Linen Maxi Skirt in Yellow with the Lucy Dynamite tee, featuring the coolest bright, red illustration. Layer with the Sorrentino Knit Cardigan and gold, chunky jewellery for an outfit that certainly doesn’t lack lustre.
For those fortunate enough to live in a subtropical climate, a statement mini dress with the addition of a chunky knit is the ultimate recipe for a cool girls winter look. The Discoteca Mini, with its side seam cut outs and silver hardware, is the perfect opportunity to still show a little sun kissed skin. Layer with the Texas Muse Knit Jumper featuring an oversized fit and pair with socks, sandals and a bucket hat for the ultimate “I just got back from Europe” winter look.
As we move between cozy restaurants and local wine bars, we can’t help but don a trusty trench coat to keep us toasty. Naturally, our most loved for this season is the Ionian Isles Trench designed in a fresh, pastel lemon tone. Match with this electric blue, wool scarf from Acne Studios and our favourite Ganni boots and the look is complete.
Customary to the thealkingpointofview uniform, print clashing and layered textures are here to carry us through the winter months with style. At the heart of this look is the Place of Rhythm Knit Top and the Ava Muse Linen Vest from our Cala De Portinatx collection, arriving soon. For some added warmth, throw over the Next In Play Jacket and add a touch of color with this Prada shoulder bag in the sweetest berry hue.

Creativity is at the heart of everything we do at thealkingpointofview, and our home’s are no exception in performing as another blank canvas for our evolving creative ideas. With the recent move into her inner city abode, we got chatting to our co-founder and CEO, Daniella about the interiors that shape the oasis of her modern space and draw intimate connections to her own creative identity.
Casting light on the stockpiled memories of her travels and an abundance of unexpected treasures she’s collected along the way, Dan’s pulled together her own version of a little black book to guide your next interior hunt.
The painting on the right wall was created by artist Bonnie Gray as a bridesmaid gift that my best friend, and sister, bought for me. It was custom painted according to the love story of my partner, Tim, and I. I hold this piece super close to my heart.” Bonnie also sent us a letter that we got framed.
I got the painting behind our bed custom made as well by @octavia_tomyn_art. I loved her body paintings - she did it personalised for myself and my partner. My bed is by @_zenndesign. I got this custom made. You can choose your own colours and fabrics, I love boucle because it’s super neutral.
I purchased these chairs from @clo_studios and adore the vintage inspired feel they add to my home. I’ve had the marble side table for years, it’s a vintage piece I collected. The bowl is from house owl is from house of alwaans in clunes - amazing shop with all pieces from morocco. So many bowls, vases and pots. Authentic. Marble head - Nat bought me from antique centre a few years ago.
Art (L-R) by @veallart, @gabriellepenfold & @hannahcarrick___
Our dining table is from @en._gold. It fits so many people which is perfect as I love entertaining and having friends and family over. It’s made from stone and fossil and contrasts so nicely against the black & rattan chairs.
This is my favourite affordable purchase. I was determined to find some wave handles and found these from Urban Outfitters Home. My worry beads are from Greece and have been in my life for 10 years, I adore them. These chairs were purchased from @racheldonath_. I bought these a few years ago and still love them as they tie in perfectly with my wavy door handles.
Our couch is @sarahellisonstudio. The suede collour matches perfectly with my neutral colour palette and it’s literally the biggest, most comfortable couch ever. I purchased from floor lamp and candle holders from @mcmullinandco. The picture on the wall is a Slim Aaarons piece - he is my favourite photographer so I found it difficult to pick just one, but I love the boats, they bring such a European atmosphere. The rug is from Milk and Sugar and the coffee table is a really old travertine table I purchased second hand.
Our hallway table was purchased from Coco Republic. I love this shade of marble, it’s my dream. The vase is an antique set of 2 that I purchased 10 years ago at a cute antique store. I have a million coffee table books because I am obsessed - I especially go for bright ones or European ones as they inspire me. The ceramic sculpture was made by my husband Tim when he was little - I love how timeless and sentimental it is.
When I first stayed at the sun seeker in Byron Bay, they had these incredible pieces in every room so I reached out to the artist who made one for me.

In the spirit of all things Valentine’s, we quizzed our loved ones on how well they know us.
]]>
Whether it’s a long lunch and sunset margs with our best friends, movie night with our siblings or pasta and vino’s with our lover, we’re big fans of leaning into the holiday that is Valentine’s for those mid-week plans with our favourite people.
Whether or not the traditional festivities of Valentine’s Day are on your radar, the beauty of celebrating love of all kinds is something we can definitely all tap into.
In the spirit of love, we asked a few of the thealkingpointofviews to round up their loved ones, be them partners, sisters, best friends or housemates, to test how well they know each other.
]]>
Chances are, you’re probably still recovering from a food coma and endless social affairs from the holiday season. So if the thought of diving back into work or studies is giving you week-long Sunday scaries, believe us that you aren’t alone!
Jumping back into routine after a break can be tough, but setting good habits and intentions can help make the process that little bit easier. We’ve collated a few of our top tips below to help you start the work year with a bang.
Starting a Diary/Calendar
Starting a daily diary or even just tracking your day-to-day in a calendar is such a good way of getting on top of your year and starting it off with a bang! We love keeping it simple with sleek aesthetic diaries and beautiful calendars! You could also try including a little drawing of your day or something cool you saw, to get your creative juices flowing!
Meal Prepping
We think the theme for this year is going to be slowing down, reconnecting with ourselves and holding ourselves accountable, whilst building healthy habits! Meal prepping is a really easy way to do this because it also gives us the opportunity to be creative and personalise our food to ourselves! Sunday nights are perfect for meal prepping, because the shops are quiet and you can take the time to be slow and have fun with it. We love setting ourselves up for success in the week ahead by cooking healthy, nutritious and exciting meals!
New Outfits
Getting into the groove of a new year can often be a great opportunity to shake up your personal style. Making room in your wardrobe for new outfits can help skyrocket your confidence and set you up for success as you dive back into work/studies. Our latest drop includes so many versatile pieces that are perfect for styling your back to work ‘fits.
Better Sleep
We love sleep, and a big thing we’re wanting to work on over here is getting better, more restful sleep, so we can tackle our days! An idea to try is to start turning off your phone an hour before bedtime, and spending some quality time with a book. The ultimate sleep routine would be drinking some delicious sleepy time tea (we love this one by T2), having a bath and reading a book, before jumping into bed and having the best sleep of our lives, every night!
Social Media Detoxing
Social media can sometimes be A LOT, and it’s really important to recognise when we need a break! We think it’s a great idea to give your mind and body a bit of a break from the scrolling, and to take some time off your phone. We love a casual stroll down the beach, or a hike up a beautiful mountain to give ourselves a bit of a break, spending some unplugged time with friends and family is a great way to help yourself reset and refresh!

Although cozying up with a warm cup of eggnog isn’t quite on the agenda here in Australia, we’re no strangers to the joy of watching a Christmas classic every night of December.
If you need a list of classics (and some new treasures) to make your holiday season a little sweeter, check out our guide below.
If you’re after those nostalgic feels, Home Alone is the watch for you. This one truly takes us back to our childhood!
It wouldn’t be Christmas without watching it at least once (although we’re guilty of squeezing in as many replays as possible). Love Actually is by far the office favourite with all of it’s English, romantic goodness.
Okay, so it’s technically not a Christmas movie, but we’re firm believers that any film set at Christmas time warrants a watch during the holiday season. We’re suckers for the first Bridget Jones’s Diary - and an excuse to watch a movie starring early noughties Hugh Grant is definitely on our agenda.
A hilarious watch that will have you laughing the whole way through. Elf is the joyous Christmas film we all need this time of year!
With it’s all-star cast, this rom-com is a definite crowd pleaser. An absolute must-watch for Christmas.
If you’re feeling daring enough to try one of the newer Christmas movies, we highly recommend starting with Office Christmas Party. This one is a hilarious, easy watch starring our 90s golden girl Jen Aniston.

Welcome to Travel Diaries, a series where we take you along to wander the streets of cities we love and long for. Exploring the food, wine, music, art & culture of cities all over the world is crucial to our identity, and has forever inspired the prints, shapes and designs of our collections. With the help of our thealkingpointofviews, we’ll be sharing each city’s best-kept secrets and revealing the #1 places to eat, drink, shop, dance & explore - the thealkingpointofview way.
For this edition, the gorgeous @miregarde takes us through her hometown, Barcelona, and shares her guide for the perfect weekend.
As an ode to our infatuation with 90s style, we’re taking a look back at some of the era’s most iconic style moments that are inspiring our wardrobes right now.
There is nothing that serves confidence quite like an oversized suit, and Julia Roberts wearing Armani at the Golden Globes is perhaps the ultimate source for all of our corporate-done-chic fantasies. We’ll be taking notes on her bold lip and unruly curls.
Is there anything about this look we don’t love? Cameron Diaz in this sheer chiffon top and silk slip maxi skirt is the fairy energy we need in our wardrobes. Not to mention the delicate sequin handbag of our dreams - where can we buy this?!
There is no one who did ‘cool’ better than Kate Moss, and this red halterneck maxi is no exception to her effortlessly chic allure. We’re taking notes on this one for our next beach-to-bar Euro Vacay look.
Perhaps the most underrated fashion icon of the era, Princess Diana’s street style gives the cool girls of today a major run for their money. We’re gushing over this all white athleisure moment.
It’s hard to pick just one of Gwyneth Paltrow’s iconic looks from the 90s, but we think this one really takes the cake in capturing her effortless, minimalistic style. This silhouette hugging high-neck slip and its matching silk over-shirt deserves a place in all of our wardrobes (we also wouldn’t mind having Brad Pitt as an accessory too).

If you’ve been following us for a little while, you may have stumbled upon one of our Artist Collaborations. At thealkingpointofview, we’re forever inspired by the creative talent in our local community. Working alongside some of our favourite local artists to bring to life pieces that intersect the space of fashion and art is something we truly adore, and hope you do too.
We love celebrating art in all forms, which is why we’re so incredibly proud to share with you our latest Artist Range in collaboration with tattoo artist, Kaitie Baker, otherwise known as @scattatts
Designed to make you feel like the coolest version of yourself, Kaitie’s tattoo work is nostalgic, retro and totally unique. We had the pleasure of sitting down with the wonderful Kaitie to get to know her a little better, and explore the inspiration behind our upcoming collaboration.
If watching Emma Chamberlain’s home tour with AD has sent you into a frantic internet spiral, searching for decor to spruce up your apartment - trust us, you’re not alone.
Her mid-century modern abode is what all of our dreams are made of, and since the video was posted, we’ve been on an internet deep dive to find pieces that are equally cool as they are personal, as inspired by Emma.
It’s true that picking art for your home is by far the hardest of any interior decor choices. And while we’d all love to have a talented parent like Emma’s dad who could paint us something entirely personalised, sadly that’s not always the case. Nevertheless, thanks to the pandemic surging online shopping, there’s never been a time in history where we’ve had so much access to art - and with more choices comes greater ability to pick something unique, personal and totally you.
As such, we’ve rounded up 7 of the best artists you should definitely check out for pieces that will make your house feel like a home.
“Studio Sogni was born from daydreams of endless summers in Italy, of sun drenched afternoons, sieste, and aperol in the piazza under the full moon.”
“My work celebrates a huge love for colour, shape and texture . My work is layers and layers of paint, mark makings are all part of the visual landscape of my canvas, the history of the art process.”
Daniella Jones is from 95', a change of millenniums’s child. She has her roots in the capital city of Denmark, Copenhagen and lives between there and her favourite city, Barcelona where she paints her craft.
Sammy’s practice celebrates the intersection between the familiar and the sublime. Elevating the ordinary and the imperfect, her subjects are complex and free. Using an optimistic palette, she evokes nostalgia for travel and the mystique of faraway lands.
Heath Wae is a Melbourne-born, Mullumbimby based artist whose practice traverses painting, sculpture and installation. Wae creates immersive, poignant works which explore psychological and physiological shifts in the human consciousness through ideas of interconnection, duality and timelessness.
Originally from Sale, Gippsland, artist Libby Haines swapped the country for Melbourne, where she works from her home studio. As a mother and an artist, her work cherishes the joy of everyday moments and the nostalgia of objects in colourful still life paintings.
Carrick gained her independence early in life, having left home at the age of 16. This challenging path into womanhood has been reflected in her works, from simple, fluid lines on canvas representing the female form, to bold, powerful women embracing their sexuality, beauty and confidence.
